Pineapple Tea: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

July 6, 2013
During the winter months I sleep like a bear in hibernation, but I find it nearly impossible to get a good 40 winks each night come summer. Long light evenings coupled with a pleasant temperature makes staying out till late in London that much easier. If, like me, you are also planning a quickly approaching wedding, suddenly there is always something you should be doing and sleep is no longer a top priority. Tired from staying wide-awake at night trying to drift off and temporarily forget my mental to-do list, I tried just about everything to catch up on my dearly missed zzz’s: melatonin, reading before bed, hot baths, nighttime yoga, sleeping pills, soothing scented candles, and counting endless sheep.

Nothing was working until a family friend recommended I tried Pineapple Tea, a natural sleep remedy that you can easily make at home. Now I am no doctor, but there is something in pineapple leaves that calms and puts you to sleep for a full 8 hours in no time. Here is a step-by-step fool-proof way to make this natural sleeping aid and say goodbye to sleepless nights for good.

For one serving of Pineapple Tea you will need:
– a pineapple with a good hairdo (aka long leaves)
– a pinch of cinnamon
– one teabag of herbal tea (I recommend lemon and ginger)
– hot water and a cute mug!
Start by filling your mug (decorated with hand-painted pugs of course!) with hot water and put your herbal tea bag into the mug.
Place up to 3 fresh pineapple leaves into the hot water and stir the teabag around the mug for one minute.
Gently add as much cinnamon to your personal taste to your tea. I like to use up to two pinches of cinnamon.
Let your pineapple tea sit for a good 5 minutes, so you don’t burn your mouth on the first sip.
Take your teabag out and give the tea one last stir with the pineapple leaves before you remove the leaves from the mug as well – it’s rather challenging to drink from a mug with pineapple leaves pointed at your face! Sip and savour your tea when you are getting ready for bed time, so it is easy for your body to fully switch off and get that much needed beauty rest. I’m not 100% sure why this tea makes you fall asleep like a baby, but it does. I hope this Pineapple Tea works as well for you as it has for me.

Sweet dreams!
