London Spring/Summer 14′ Fashion Week Looks To Embrace

March 12, 2014
Although I have never been to London fashion week, I seem to know an awful lot about it due to my addiction to Grazia magazine and fashionista blogs. Sad isn’t it! I love this time of year when the craziness of London, Paris, and Milan fashion week is over and suddenly the latest trends for spring and summer are revealed. Londoners immediately start updating their wardrobe accordingly. I won’t necessarily be trying out all these trends myself, but if you are truly fashion forward, this is what you should be incorporating into your look this season:

Colorblocking used to be all about “power clashing” super bright hues and prints together, but following fashion week it is now clear we should be implementing a more subdued and neutral version this spring – ie: not looking like a neon Rubik’s Cube.

Statement shoulder bags
The practical statement shoulder bag was one luxury accessory seen at all the London, Paris, and Milan fashion week shows. Ideal for transitioning from work to evening wear, this style is endlessly versatile. A hand-painted CHANEL or fiery red Mulberry for spring? Sign us up!
Sassy ankle boots & mules
Your feet will be relieved to hear that sensible flats are a footwear staple this spring. No need to put your power moccasins, metallic flats, monochrome brogues or suede loafers away any time soon! Dressed up ankle boots, chic leather mules, and open toed wedges in every colour imaginable (with chains, fringes, studs and more) go great with summer dresses. Shoe wear for spring is solved.

Mixed textures hair
Just when you thought the early 90’s Calvin Klein grunge look was done for good…say hello to mixed textures hair, the hottest new spring hair trend to try. To re-create this modern take on natural grunge, you will need to shellack the centrerpart of your hair using a strong finishing spray and blowdry the remaining hair for a crisp final look. A-listers like Beyonce and Kim Kartrashian have been seen trying out this new do’ – I think I will leave it them!

Flora & Fauna
Owls have been trending in all shapes and forms in London for a while now, and it seems that we will be seeing much more of them along with other creatures of the garden following fashion week’s poignant floral and fauna trend – thorns, flowers, branches and all. Feel free to embody the Garden of Eden from now on.
Extra Large Coats
The fall/winter 13′ trend for bold and enormous coats isn’t going anywhere. Light oversized coats are staying put for cooler spring days in all types of statement colours and fabrics -bring on fur, leather, shearling and light wool! This fabulous sea foam Missoni coat, which strutted down the Milan fashion week catwalk last week, is on my lust list.

Orange Lips
Just like the hit TV Show, Orange is the New Black, this vibrant colour will become a staple in our closet in no time. Orange is also the dominant high-impact hue we should be painting on our lips for the spring and summer months ahead. A quick dab on your puckers is a great way to add some sharp colour to a neutral look.

Fresh Off The Catwalk: The Top Autumn ’13 Fashion Trends

September 17, 2013
I am trying to force myself not to wear tights until October, but this September has been especially chilly in London. I’m reluctantly starting to acknowledge that autumn is here and it’s time to update my wardrobe accordingly. Out with the kaftans and in with the winter thermals! I’ve read through the fashion forecasting bible (the September issue of Vogue) to see what we should and shouldn’t be wearing this season…
… and have been tuning in to what is SO HOT and oh so not at London Fashion Week. Here are my notes on the top fashion forward essentials we should be embracing this autumn, as temperatures start to drop:

White Nail Polish
White nail polish was on everyone’s fingertips this summer. This colour is brilliant for showing off bronzed skin (while you still have a summer tan!) and goes great with almost any outfit. Looks like this trend is staying put for now, so start stocking up for winter wonderland nails.
Besides, if it’s good enough for Beyonce, then it’s definitely good enough for BLONDON!

Oversized Coats

A definite fall trend spotted on the runway and in the shops is oversized coats of all colours – especially pastels and baby pink. Perfect for wearing over a sweater (aka a ‘jumper’ in the UK) when you want to feel extra warm and cosy. Rather than looking like you’re wearing a snuggie or large blanket, these oversized coats are cleverly cut so you still look tailored and winter chic. I’m adding one to my wardrobe pronto!

Full Eyebrows
You can thank Kate Middleton or Cara Delevingne for bringing bushy brows back! All the models in Karl Lagerfeld’s autumn Chanel show had defined and full ‘Cara brows’ on the catwalk– now that’s enough to make you raise your eyebrows! The days of pencil thin Pamela Anderson brows are long gone so ease off on the tweezing and start growing out yours for a more au natural look.

You don’t have to be in the Scottish Highlands to pull off the latest fashion trend! Tartan is on the runway in all colours imaginable. Go big with tartan or go home – this print is not to be shied away from. If you’re a true fashionista, then rock some tartan with another bold print to be extra loud.

Braids 101

Majority of the models in London Fashion Week have been pictured with their hair in all types of impressive braids, some of which I know I will fail massively trying to replicate. Call up Danilo Hair Boutique in London or Johne Barretta at Salon 801 in San Francisco for hair styling rehab 101. You won’t regret it!

Punk Rock Goth
Marilyn Manson’s stylist must be jumping for joy because punk rock goth has become cool overnight! Ever since the 2013 NYC Met Gala theme, Punk: Chaos to Couture, designers have been throwing chains, studs and metallic spikes on their latest lines in full force. Ditch your preppy Lilly Pullitzer dress and funk up your look with leather and a mohawk!
Giselle shows us how punk rock can still be glam
Knee high hell for leather boots

International stylecasters Kate Moss and Blake Lively have been spotted wearing a lot of knee high boots lately, so naturally we should be embracing this look for autumn as well. Knee high boots over skinny jeans or bare legged to dress up an outfit is all the rage. Don’t be shy now, the more leg and leather the better.

Following the fashion gods’ advice, I’m keeping my tights in the closet and throwing on a pair of knee high leather boots to stay warm as autumn arrives!
